Method statements

Method statement review

A method statement should show how you will deliver this contract: what happens, in what order, who is responsible and how you check it worked. Drafts often reuse a standard document that doesn't answer the buyer's question.

Who it's for

  • Contractors writing method statements for quality questions
  • Bid writers adapting standard method statements
  • SMEs new to public sector tenders

Common weak points

  • Generic content not tied to the specification
  • No clear sequence or responsibilities
  • Checks and records missing
  • Risks not addressed
  • Over the word limit

Common patterns in this type of tender answer.

Reused method statement

The content describes a different site or service and misses parts of this question.

No owner for each step

Steps are listed but nobody is responsible for them.

Checks missing

The answer says what will be done but not how you'll know it was done properly.

Weak vs stronger wording

Fictional example — grounds maintenance method statement.

Weak draft

Our experienced team will carry out all grounds maintenance tasks to a high standard throughout the year.

Stronger wording

Work follows a seasonal programme: [insert tasks by season] at the frequencies in the specification. Each crew is led by [insert role], who records completed work in [insert system]. [Insert role] inspects [insert sample] each [insert frequency] and failed items are put right within [insert timescale].

Fictional example. Replace each [placeholder] with facts you can verify — never invent figures.

Frequently asked

Will the review tell me whether I will win?⌄

No. Nobody outside the evaluation panel can predict scores. The review shows where your answer doesn't clearly address the question or criteria, and where evidence is missing, so you can fix it before you submit.

What's the difference between the free check and the paid review?⌄

The free check looks at one question and one draft answer. The £49 review covers one tender: you get a review report and an improved, editable Word response within 24 hours of payment.
